Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) during the 36th convocation of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Uttarakhand’s Pantnagar.
In the ceremony, Uttarakhand Governor and chancellor of state’s GB Pant University Lt Gen (Retd) Gurmeet Singh also awarded degrees to 1,172 students, praising the university’s legacy. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other dignitaries were also present during the ceremony.
Speaking after being honoured with the doctorate, CDS Chauhan expressed happiness and discussed the achievements of the university.

“Reviving the spirit of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ is a proud moment for me. It is a privilege to grant degrees to such distinguished individuals. Universities have a significant role in helping the country become a developed nation by 2047. By utilizing innovative ideas, students can lead the country towards advancement. India will dominate the 21st century,” CDS said.
As many as 355 improved varieties of various crops and two breeds of animals developed by the university have also been dedicated to the nation.
