Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is close to surpassing the iconic India Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest runs in a calendar year by an Indian batter. Remarkably, Jaiswal has displayed outstanding form this year, amassing 1280 runs in 12 matches (23 innings) with an average of 58.18, including three centuries and seven fifties.

The left-handed batsman trails Tendulkar’s total of 1562 runs, achieved in 2010, by 282 runs, marking the highest runs by an Indian player in a calendar year. Jaiswal needs to compete in three additional matches this year, and due to his present form, he may very likely be at the top of the standings by year’s end.

Jaiswal had a fantastic beginning in the five-match Test series versus Australia, scoring an impressive 161 (297) in the second innings after getting out for a duck in the first innings. The 22-year-old played in an unusual manner, being cautious at the start of his innings and refraining from reaching for balls outside the off stump while confronting the new ball.

Can Jaiswal break the record of ‘Iconic’ Tendulkar?

Numerous veterans and legends have worn the whites for the Men in Blue, spanning from the past to the present. From Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath to Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Rahul Dravid, and then to Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal – the tradition of red-ball cricket in India has been handed down through generations.

Sachin Tendulkar has the record for accumulating the highest number of Test runs in one calendar year. The ‘Master Blaster’ accumulated 1562 runs over 14 Test matches in the year 2010. He ranks as the sixth-highest run-scorer in Test matches for a single calendar year in history.

Current Indian team batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, approaches Tendulkar’s national record of 1562 runs set in 2010. Jaiswal requires 283 runs to surpass the record and has three additional Tests – a possible six games – to break the record held by the ‘God’ of cricket.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
