Diplomatic Win: Shaw’s release by Pakistan Rangers comes days after his arrest sparked concern following a terror attack in Pahalgam. His safe return reflects the swift coordination between Indian authorities and diplomatic channels.

March 14, 2025: Joy and relief filled the home of Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Shaw on Wednesday, following his safe return from Pakistani custody. Shaw, a resident of Rishra in Hooghly district, had been missing since April 23 after being arrested by Pakistani forces near the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab’s Ferozepur district.

His arrest occurred under tense circumstances, just a day after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region on April 22. While the two incidents were not officially linked, Shaw’s detention in such a sensitive period raised alarm and speculation about potential cross-border tensions. The BSF constable had reportedly strayed across the international border under unclear circumstances, leading to his capture by Pakistani Rangers.

For 13 days, Shaw’s family endured a harrowing wait with little information about his condition or whereabouts. “We were living in fear and uncertainty,” said a family member. “These past days were filled with anxiety. We thank the central government and BSF officials for ensuring his safe return.”

On May 8, Shaw was formally handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari-Wagah border crossing, bringing an emotional end to the family’s ordeal. Officials have not disclosed further details about Shaw’s detention, but sources confirm he underwent questioning by Indian security agencies upon return, a standard procedure in such cross-border incidents.

Shaw’s return has brought comfort not only to his family but also to his BSF colleagues, many of whom had been following the case closely. For now, the focus is on his recovery and reunion with loved ones after a deeply traumatic experience.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
