BJP stalwart LK Advani admitted to AIIMS; condition stable

Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, officials reported on Wednesday.

Iconic BJP leader LK Advani hopitalised; condition stable

Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, officials reported on Wednesday.

The 96-year-old statesman has been under the care of specialists from AIIMS’s geriatric section in Delhi.

“LK Advani is admitted at AIIMS New Delhi. He is stable and under observation,” read the AIIMS statement.

Advani was conferred with Bharat Ratna earlier this year

The former deputy prime minister was hospitalised three months after receiving the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian accolade. President Droupadi Murmu presented Advani with the Bharat Ratna at his Delhi residence.

The solemn ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and LK Advani’s family members.

Who is LK Advani?

Advani was the longest-serving President of the Bharatiya Janata Party from its formation in 1980. LK Advani, first served as the Home Minister and later, the Deputy Prime Minister in Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s administration (1999-2004). He was the longest-serving President of the Bharatiya Janata Party since its formation in 1980.

Advani was born in Karachi and migrated to India after Partition, and eventually settled in Bombay, where he completed his academic studies. Advani joined the RSS in 1941 when he was fourteen years old and worked as a pracharak in Rajasthan.

Advani married Kamla Advani in February 1965; they had a son, Jayant, and a daughter, Pratibha. Pratibha is a television producer who also supports her father’s political initiatives. His wife died on April 6, 2016 of old age.
