Over 50 detained in Bahraich as city returns to normalcy after violent clashes led to one death
More than 50 individuals have been detained in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh as the city gradually resumed normalcy following violent confrontations on October 13, which led to the tragic death of a 22-year-old individual.
The mobile internet and broadband services remain suspended in Mahsi Tehsil of Bharaich due to clashes, with senior police and civic officials present to ensure law and order.

Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), and Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta are staying in Bahraich as per the orders of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath.

“The situation is returning to normalcy. The Bahraich-Sitapur route has been reopened. Security and patrolling are being ensured in the 20-km radius of Maharajganj with the deployment of police personnel, Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) along with senior officers of the district police and administration. There is heightened vigilance, especially in sensitive areas,” Yash told reporters.
Violence-hit areas have divided into nine sectors
Shashi Bhushan Sushil, the Divisional Commissioner of Devipatan, stated that peace and order are being maintained in Bahraich and that the violence-hit areas have been split into nine sectors, with close monitoring of activities.
Sharing details about the relief operations, Bahraich’s District Magistrate Monika Rani mentioned the establishment of a control room to aid residents by distributing relief kits to families affected by the violence. Moreover, a revenue team is conducting a survey to evaluate the impact, guaranteeing that the authorities will offer full assistance to individuals impacted by the violence.
So far, 52 people have been arrested, Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla said, adding that two more FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence, and police teams are conducting raids based on video footage to arrest the identified accused.
