North India remained affected by severe cold wave conditions on Thursday, as thick fog covered Delhi. The airport in Delhi released a notification regarding low visibility situations. However, it stated that no flights were disrupted because of fog, greatly relieving travelers during the holiday period.
At 7 am, the overall visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport was 500 metres. The airport stated that flights complying with CAT III were not impacted. CAT III compliant aircraft are designed to land securely in low visibility situations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to heavy fog in the Delhi-NCR area for December 26.
Temperatures are projected to drop more starting December 27, with colder weather arriving by December 29, according to a report from news agency PTI that cites top meteorologists.
Up to 18 trains headed for Delhi, such as the Duronto Express and the Avadh Assam Express, are delayed because of thick fog.
On Christmas Day, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir noted a low of minus 7.3 degrees Celsius.

The air quality in Delhi stayed in the ‘very poor’ range, with anticipated minimum and maximum temperatures of 9 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively.
