Amul, Mother Dairy hike milk prices by Rs 2 per litre

Mother Dairy raised milk prices in Delhi-NCR by ₹2 per litre due to rising input costs over the past 15 months. Prices for all milk varieties will rise beginning Monday (June 3) in Delhi-NCR and other regions where it operates.

On Sunday, Amul announced an increase in the prices of milk.

Milk price increases by these two largest milk suppliers come shortly after the Lok Sabha elections have concluded.

According to the statement issued by Mother Dairy, it said that there is a ₹2 per litre increase in liquid milk pricing across all markets starting June 3, 2024.

Milk prices increased due to increase in production costs

According to the report, the increase in consumer prices is mostly intended to compensate producers for rising production costs that have been increasing for more than a year.

Mother Dairy full cream milk is now available in Delhi-NCR for ₹68 per litre, while toned and double-toned milk are priced at ₹56 and ₹50 per litre, respectively.

Prices for buffalo and cow milk have increased to ₹72 and ₹58 per litre, respectively.

Token milk (bulk vended milk) will be sold for ₹ 54 per litre.

Mother Dairy, which sells 35 lakh litres of fresh milk per day in Delhi-NCR, claimed its liquid milk pricing were last changed in February 2023.

“Despite paying increased prices for milk procurement in recent months, consumer prices remained stable. Furthermore, heat stress has been unprecedented across the country, and it is expected to have a significant impact on milk output,” Mother Dairy stated.

The company stated that it allocates approximately 75-80 percent of its milk sales revenue to procurement.

This helps to ensure the sustainability of dairy production and the availability of high-quality milk.

“The surge in farm prices is only being partially passed on to the consumers, with an effective revision of 3-4 per cent, thereby securing the interests of both the milk producers and the consumers,” Mother Dairy said.

On late Sunday, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets dairy goods under the Amul brand, increased milk prices by around ₹ 2 per liter across the country.

The ₹ 2 per liter hike results in a 3-4 percent increase in MRP, which is lower than average food inflation, according to a late night statement from GCMMF.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
