• Over 88,000 police personnel will benefit from the Delbhi LG decsion, which recognizes long and dedicated service without adding financial or pensionary perks.

New Delhi, December 12, 2025 — In a major morale-boosting decision for the Delhi Police, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has approved the grant of one-level-higher Honorary Ranks to personnel from the ranks of Constable to Sub-Inspector on the day of their superannuation. The move is expected to benefit more than 88,000 serving and retiring personnel, offering formal recognition of their long years of dedicated service.

Officials clarified that the upgraded honorary rank will not carry any additional financial or pensionary benefits, but will serve as a prestigious acknowledgment of service and commitment.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the honorary promotion, Delhi Police personnel must meet the following conditions:

  • Completion of at least two years in their current rank.

  • Good APARs (Annual Performance Appraisal Reports) for the last five years.

  • No major punishment recorded during their service.

Personnel will receive the following honorary upgrades at retirement:

  • Sub-Inspectors → Inspector

  • Assistant Sub-Inspectors → Sub-Inspector

  • Head Constables → Assistant Sub-Inspector

  • Constables → Head Constable

The decision follows a similar move by the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2025, when CAPF and Assam Rifles personnel were granted honorary ranks above their existing positions on superannuation, without additional financial benefits. Inspired by that framework, the Delhi Police subsequently submitted a proposal to the LG for equivalent recognition for its own force.

Officials said the measure will:

  • Enhance morale among serving personnel

  • Recognise decades of dedicated policing

  • Strengthen discipline, pride, and institutional respect within the force

  • Offer symbolic yet meaningful elevation at the time of retirement

The honorary rank system is expected to become a significant morale-booster for personnel engaged in one of the country’s most demanding policing environments.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
