The public feud comes as the RJD reels from electoral losses and Tej Pratap’s expulsion, deepening fractures within Bihar’s most influential political family.

Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Thursday announced that she is quitting politics and severing all ties with her family. Her declaration on X (formerly Twitter) came just a day after the Rashtriya Janata Dal suffered a major setback in the Bihar Assembly elections.
In a stunning statement, Rohini alleged that Tejashwi Yadav’s close aide Sanjay Yadav and her husband Rameez Alam pushed her toward this decision.
“I’m quitting politics, and I’m disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I’m taking all the blame,” she wrote.
A doctor by profession, Rohini previously contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Saran, where she lost by a large margin to BJP MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy.
Rohini’s announcement did not come as a surprise to those tracking the family feud. Months before the Bihar polls, she had unfollowed the X accounts of the RJD, Lalu Yadav, and her brother Tejashwi. Her timeline soon filled with cryptic, emotional posts hinting at deep resentment within the family.

The tensions partly stemmed from the controversy surrounding her 2022 kidney donation to her father. Rumours questioning whether she had actually donated a kidney led Rohini to publicly challenge critics to prove their claims.

Sanjay Yadav’s Influence Sparks Backlash
A major trigger in the growing discord was the alleged overreach of Sanjay Yadav, Tejashwi’s political strategist and now a Rajya Sabha MP. His prominent presence during the Bihar Adhikar Yatra, especially a viral photo showing him seated in the front row of the RJD campaign bus, deeply angered Rohini. Though she did not name him directly, her posts were widely interpreted as a rebuke.
Her remarks invited backlash from within the family and party circles, with critics accusing her of harbouring political ambitions.
Family Divisions Deepen
The feud escalated further following the recent expulsion of Tej Pratap Yadav from the RJD. Tej Pratap openly supported Rohini, even invoking Lord Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra while defending her against her detractors.
Growing resentment toward Sanjay Yadav within the Yadav household has intensified the crisis, with many blaming him for meddling in ticket selection and internal party affairs.
Rohini’s decision to walk away from both politics and her family marks one of the deepest public rifts in the Lalu Yadav clan. Coming at a time when the RJD is already struggling with electoral losses and weakening internal cohesion, her move threatens to widen the cracks in Bihar’s most influential political family.
