Authorities are scrambling to trace 36-year-old British citizen Jordan Fitz Patrick, who escaped IGI Airport’s transit area without a visa or passport stamping. Surveillance footage captured him bypassing multiple security layers on October 29, but no alerts were triggered. Delhi Police, CISF, and immigration officials are coordinating a nationwide manhunt amid mounting criticism of procedural lapses at one of Asia’s busiest international gateways.

New Delhi, November 8, 2025 — In a serious lapse at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, a 36-year-old British national, Jordan Joseph Peter Fitz Patrick, who was being deported from Thailand to the UK, slipped past immigration control and vanished into the city. Eleven days later, he remains untraceable — triggering a multi-agency manhunt and raising sharp questions over security protocols at one of India’s busiest airports.
Fitz Patrick arrived at IGI Airport around noon on October 28 via Air India Flight AI 333 from Bangkok, holding UK passport number 55819. He was under escort for a connecting Air India flight to London, scheduled to depart about two and a half hours later.
After arriving late and missing his connection, he was placed in the international transit area under airline staff supervision. But instead of remaining in the restricted zone, he exploited a window of opportunity to escape.
CCTV footage shows Fitz Patrick scaling a flap gate near the e-visa immigration counter around 7:30 a.m. on October 29, blending in with arriving passengers and exiting through the arrivals gate — bypassing mandatory biometric and passport checks without a valid Indian visa.
The escape went unnoticed until later that morning when airline staff discovered his absence. Immigration officials immediately alerted Delhi Police, but no physical checks or secondary barriers stopped him from exiting the terminal, revealing glaring procedural lapses.

Manhunt and Investigation
As of November 8, Fitz Patrick remains missing. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Immigration Act and Foreigners Act at the IGI Airport police station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Vichitra Veer confirmed that specialized teams from Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Crime Branch, and Bureau of Immigration (BoI) are jointly investigating, with assistance from CISF, Intelligence Bureau (IB), and potentially Interpol.
Search efforts include:
Technical surveillance: Review of over 1,000 hours of CCTV footage from the airport and surrounding NCR entry points.
Ground checks: Door-to-door searches at budget hotels, guesthouses, and shelters near the airport; alerts issued at major railway stations, bus terminals, and metro stations.
Airline probe: Questioning of Air India ground staff and escorts. Preliminary findings indicate lapses during the delayed transit period.
Nationwide alerts: Lookout circulars at all major airports and land borders to prevent any exit or re-entry.
Officials believe Fitz Patrick is likely relying on cash and low-profile lodging to avoid detection. “This is a clear breach of protocol, and we’re leaving no stone unturned,” a senior police officer said, confirming the use of AI-based facial recognition in the search.

Operational Concerns and Broader Implications
The incident comes amid ongoing operational stress at IGI Airport, which on November 7 experienced a major Air Traffic Control (ATC) glitch delaying over 800 flights. While unrelated, the timing has renewed scrutiny on Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) and the robustness of its security systems.
Aviation experts describe such an evasion during a deportation transfer as “unprecedented and deeply concerning.” IGI handles over 1,200 flights daily, and officials admit that congestion often strains immigration oversight.
This is not the first breach at IGI — past incidents include unauthorized drone sightings and baggage-screening lapses. The BoI has ordered an internal audit to tighten transit area security, possibly introducing AI-monitored access gates and enhanced staff accountability.
Diplomatic and Public Reaction
The UK High Commission has been briefed. Fitz Patrick was reportedly deported from Thailand for unspecified immigration violations, possibly overstaying his visa.
Public reaction on social media has been swift. One X user wrote:
“How does someone under deportation watch just walk out? Time for tech upgrades at IGI.”
Authorities have urged citizens to share any information. Fitz Patrick is described as Caucasian, 5’10”, last seen in casual travel attire.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the Delhi Police helpline (100) or IGI Airport security.
