The joint operation, launched at 1 PM on October 14, 2025, was based on specific information about the movement of narcotics through Kangpokpi district. Acting on the tip-off, a combined team comprising Addl. SP (L&O) Kangpokpi, SDPO Kangpokpi, SDPO Saparmeina, and OC Kangpokpi Police Station, along with personnel from the 16 Assam Rifles and 112 Battalion CRPF, conducted the targeted raid at a strategic location.
During the operation, the team apprehended three individuals identified as Veineichong Lhungdim and her husband Thongkhopao Lhungdim, both residents of C. Munnom Village, Saitu Gamphajol, and Thangminlun Haokip, son of Thanghao Haokip, from T. Thangkan Village, Saikul. Authorities believe the accused were part of an organized network involved in transporting narcotics through Manipur’s inter-district routes.
Police also recovered an Alto car and a diesel auto used for smuggling the drugs, along with four mobile phones suspected to have been used for communication and coordination of the illegal trade. The seized items and suspects were taken into custody for further questioning, and investigations are now underway to identify the source, routes, and potential interstate connections of the drug syndicate.

Meanwhile, in a parallel anti-narcotics action, a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) and Jalukbari Police Station conducted a raid at a rented house in Maligaon, Guwahati, based on credible intelligence. The operation led to the arrest of two drug peddlers — Wangjam Mukesh (44) and Premlata Devi (40) — both hailing from Bishnupur district of Manipur. The team recovered 12 soap boxes containing heroin weighing approximately 148 grams from their possession.
Police sources in Guwahati said the two accused were operating as part of a cross-border drug network that funnels narcotics from Manipur into Assam and other northeastern states. The arrests highlight the growing coordination between different state law enforcement agencies to curb the rising drug menace in the region.
Authorities in both operations reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking and vowed to continue intensified surveillance and coordinated raids to dismantle the networks threatening the youth and communities across Northeast India.
