The strike, called by IMA Manipur, AHPI, and IOGS, is a response to the assault on Prof. Ch. Pritamkumar Singh at RIMS Imphal.

September 22 — Healthcare services across Manipur face a severe disruption as doctors escalated their agitation following the assault on Prof. Ch. Pritamkumar Singh, Unit Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, RIMS Imphal.

All routine OPDs, elective surgeries, and diagnostic tests at private hospitals, government facilities, home clinics, and diagnostic centres have been suspended from 6 am on September 23 to 6 am on September 24, as per a resolution adopted at an emergency meeting of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch, AHPI Manipur, Imphal Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society (IOGS), and other medical bodies.

The meeting condemned the “life-threatening assault” on Prof. Pritamkumar on September 21 within the RIMS campus and expressed solidarity with his family, while also extending condolences to the bereaved family of late Chingsubam Manju Devi.

As part of their intensified stir, doctors will wear black badges in protest and stage a sit-in demonstration in front of the Medical Directorate on September 23 from 9 am to 12 pm. The medical fraternity has also demanded that RIMS authorities immediately lodge an FIR, ensure the arrest of those responsible, and take full responsibility for Prof. Pritamkumar’s ongoing ICU treatment.

This is utterly shameful and horrific to even watch !

The meeting further resolved to submit a memorandum to the Governor invoking the Manipur Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2015 and pressing for swift action against the culprits.

In addition, the IMA Manipur branch will appraise its National Headquarters in New Delhi about the attack and seek stronger institutional safeguards to prevent such incidents in the future.

On Monday, doctors at RIMS initiated an indefinite shutdown, halting all OPD, emergency, routine operations, and Periodic Medical Examinations (PME). The Teachers’ and Medical Officers’ Association (TAMOA), affiliated Resident Doctors Association, RIMS Students’ Union (RIMSSU), and Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association (NTEWA) joined the action. Thousands of outpatients were left without treatment.

The strike was triggered by an irate mob’s attack on Prof. Ch. Pritamkumar at RIMS, following two patient deaths allegedly due to negligence. The first death involved 35-year-old Chingshubam Ongbi Manju of Liling Chajing, Imphal West, after a caesarean section; the second was 50-year-old Yambem Sanjoy of Imphal East, who reportedly died shortly after re-admission.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
