August 28 — In a coordinated crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, central and state security forces arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized contraband worth nearly ₹10 crore along the Manipur–Nagaland border, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The operation, jointly carried out by the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and local police, was launched after intelligence inputs pointed to movement of illegal consignments through Senapati district, a vulnerable transit corridor for drug trafficking.
On 27.08.2025, Security Forces arrested one Md. Azad Khan (32) of Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhun Mayai Leikai under Thoubal-PS, Thoubal district from his residence. From his possession, the following were seized:

During the first phase of the operation, security forces apprehended Md. Yunush Khan (31), a resident of Irong Chesaba Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district, near Martyr’s Park under Mao Police Station. From his possession, authorities recovered:
- 92 packets of suspected WY tablets, weighing approximately 202 kg,

- A mobile phone with SIM cards, and
- Two cream-colored anklets believed to have been used for concealment or transport of narcotics.

Initial questioning of Yunush Khan led the joint team to the residence of his associate, Md. Azad Khan (32), of Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhun Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district. A follow-up raid uncovered a sizeable cache of psychotropic substances, including:
- 900 ml of Codeine-based syrup,
- 12 grams of brown sugar,
- 20 grams of methamphetamine,
- Two mobile phones, and
- ₹1,46,550 in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The seized narcotics and vehicles have been handed over to the authorities, while the accused have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act, 2023.
The arrests mark a significant success in efforts to disrupt the trafficking networks that funnel narcotics through Manipur, a state long considered part of the “Golden Triangle” drug corridor. Further investigations are underway to trace the larger supply chain and identify potential cross-border links.
