Amid disturbing reports of rape, murder, and administrative failure, Chirag Paswan delivered a scathing indictment of the Bihar government, suggesting collusion between officials and criminals.

NEW DELHI: In a sharp rebuke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Saturday said he feels “ashamed” to support a government under which crime has spiraled out of control — despite his party being a part of the BJP-led NDA alliance. With elections looming in Bihar later this year, Chirag’s remarks have triggered unease within the ruling coalition.
Addressing the media, Chirag voiced deep concern over the law and order situation in Bihar. “The way crime is unfolding in the state, the administration seems to have completely surrendered before criminals. It’s not just one incident — it’s a chain of crimes. If this continues, the situation will become terrifying. In fact, it already has,” he said.

Responding to speculation that the violence could be politically motivated ahead of the elections, Chirag added, “Even if there’s a conspiracy to defame the government, the responsibility to maintain order still lies with the administration. Either they are complicit or they are entirely incompetent. In both cases, they have failed to protect Bihar and its people.”

“I urge the Bihar government to act swiftly. I feel ashamed to support a government where crime is rampant and unchecked,” he reiterated.
Chirag’s remarks come on the heels of a series of disturbing incidents in Bihar. Most recently, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving ambulance after collapsing during a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bodh Gaya on July 24.
The state has also witnessed a spate of high-profile killings in recent weeks — including the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside Patna’s Paras Hospital, the fatal shooting of industrialist Gopal Khemka outside his home, and the killings of sand trader Ramakant Yadav and grocery trader Vikram Jha in separate attacks.

In response to Chirag’s criticism, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader and Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, also part of the NDA, acknowledged internal differences but called for unity. “We are in the NDA and must work to strengthen it. If Chirag avoids repeating the 2020 approach, it will benefit everyone. Today, NDA is vital for the state and country. Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar are working on all-round development. Those opposing NDA lack goodwill towards Bihar and the nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress, an ally in the RJD-led coalition, seized on the opportunity by sharing a clip of Chirag’s statement, underscoring growing rifts within the NDA.
