A 35-year-old woman, who had been missing since June 24, was allegedly gang-raped in an abandoned coach of a stationary train at Panipat railway station and subsequently left on the tracks in Sonipat, Haryana, leading to the amputation of her leg.

On June 26, the police got a missing report about her from her husband, who said she had vanished since June 24 after an argument. He remarked that although she had disappeared previously, she typically came back home by herself.

Woman recalls horrific night

The survivor informed the police that an individual at a nearby train station approached her, asserting that he had been sent by her husband.

The woman recalled that a young man came over and offered assistance, urging her to stay the night with his wife since it was late. He took me to Panipat railway station and directed me to an empty coach of a stationary train, asserting that his bags were inside, stated the 35-year-old. “I had my doubts, yet he continued to reassure me,” she stated.

“As I attempted to escape, I encountered three additional men obstructing my way; one by one, each of them assaulted me,” she stated, disregarding my cries for compassion. “They tried both natural and unnatural sex,” she recalled with tears in her eyes, “but withdrew from the latter only after I pleaded.”

Once the attackers left, the traumatized woman drifted along the tracks heading to Sonipat. Confused, she walked into a puddle of chemical waste by the tracks; shortly after, a train that went by cut off one of her feet. She fell unconscious and regained awareness at PGIMS Rohtak, where she is receiving medical care.

Search for the culprits underway

The Govt Railway Police (GRP) in Panipat filed a case against “unknown individuals” for gang-rape and serious injury. Surveillance video from the station is under examination, and groups are searching surrounding areas for the suspects. “A senior GRP officer stated, ‘The victim’s statement is vital evidence, and we anticipate making arrests shortly.'”

The survivor additionally lodged a complaint against her spouse, claiming prolonged domestic violence and marital rape.
