In a powerful statement against child sexual abuse, a Fast Track Special Court in Manipur has sentenced one Huidrom Amusana, 53, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a ₹5,000 fine after convicting him of “aggravated “ sexual assault on a minor girl. The convict hails from Nungoi Makha Leikai in Imphal East
The rigorous sentence was handed down on Monday, July 7, 2025, by W. Tonen Meitei, Judge of Fast Track Special Court No. 2, under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Court officials confirmed the details on Tuesday.
The case dates back to March 7, 2018, when Amusana sexually assaulted the minor in his bedroom. Police arrested him on March 9, 2018, following a complaint from the victim’s mother, who reported that Amusana had kissed her daughter’s face and touched her private parts.
During the trial, the young victim bravely recounted how Amusana lured her while she was playing, bought her snacks, and then forcibly assaulted her in his bedroom, threatening her life if she dared to disclose the incident.

Beyond the severe jail term, the court has taken a significant step to ensure the victim’s well-being. It directed the state government to pay ₹4 lakh in compensation from the Victim Compensation Fund or any other appropriate scheme within 30 days. This compensation, the court stated, is vital for the profound mental trauma the victim suffered throughout the incident, investigation, and trial. The period Amusana spent in judicial custody from his arrest until October 1, 2018 (six months and 22 days) will be deducted from his total sentence.
Manipur Courts Intensify Crackdown on Child Abuse
This judgment is the latest in a series of stern directives from Fast Track Special Courts in Manipur, signaling an intensified crackdown on child sexual offenses. These specialized courts, established to expedite POCSO Act cases, have been increasingly delivering swift and stringent punishments.

Only recently, in a separate development on April 6, 2025, Manipur Police detained a minor in Churachandpur following the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, an incident that prompted strong condemnation from civil society groups like the Zo Women’s Movement, demanding perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
Earlier in February 2025, the High Court of Manipur, while granting interim bail on medical grounds to one H. Sanjoy Singh, who had undergone over 6 years of an 8-year POCSO sentence, reiterated the gravity of these offenses by noting the substantial period of imprisonment already served.
These and other ongoing legal proceedings reflect a clear and consistent resolve by the state’s judiciary to ensure timely justice for child victims and to act as a significant deterrent against perpetrators. The consistent application of the amended POCSO Act, which prescribes a minimum sentence of 20 years for aggravated penetrative sexual assault, demonstrates that Manipur’s courts are committed to upholding the highest standards of child protection.
