In a sweeping order issued by the DGP, personnel from multiple police units—including Manipur Rifles, CID, and IRB—have been reassigned from Biren Singh’s detail.

July 6, 2025 — Nearly five months after N. Biren Singh resigned as Manipur’s Chief Minister, the state police department has formally withdrawn official privileges he continued to enjoy, including an extensive security escort and staff support.

In an official order issued by the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, more than 70 police personnel, including officers from various battalions and intelligence units, have been relieved from their duties at the former Chief Minister’s bungalow, office, and secretariat.

The directive, marked as “in public interest”, instructs the personnel to return immediately to their original postings across districts such as Bishnupur (BPR), Imphal East (IE), Imphal West (IW), Thoubal (TML), and battalions including the Manipur Rifles (MR) and India Reserve Battalions (IRB).

Those removed include escort teams, static guards, secretariat staff, and PSOs who had been attached to the CM’s establishment well after Singh stepped down in February 2025.

The full order, signed by Deputy Inspector General (HQ/Adm) Sorokhaibam Gautam Singh, calls for immediate compliance by district police chiefs and unit commanders. It also marks a symbolic end to the extended privileges Singh continued to exercise despite no longer holding office.

The withdrawn personnel list includes members of elite units like the CID (Technical Wing), the 7th and 9th IRB, and the 1st and 2nd MR, many of whom were stationed at Singh’s residence or acted as personal security.

The political implications of this step are significant. Critics had questioned why Singh continued to enjoy the trappings of power despite resigning, and whether it signaled his continued influence over the administrative machinery.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
