India’s pioneering astronaut on the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission, Shubhanshu Shukla, is poised to make history by initiating a live ham radio connection with the UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Karnataka from the International Space Station. The event is organized by ISRO and will link school students throughout India, igniting the passion of future space lovers.
The event will be conducted via the ARISS program, which creates radio communication chances between students and astronauts aboard the ISS.

Shukla is one of four astronauts involved in the Axiom-4 mission, a 14-day research journey to the International Space Station. He became the first Indian to arrive at the ISS and just the second Indian in space following Rakesh Sharma.

Ham radio is a non-commercial communication service recognized for its reliability during emergencies when standard communication methods are unavailable.
This ham radio session will enable students and engineers on the ground to engage directly with the astronaut, pose inquiries about life and research in microgravity, and observe real-time communication from space internationally.

By using specific radio frequencies, ham operators are able to connect with others over cities, nations, and even with astronauts in outer space.
