Several areas of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rain on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming hours, stating that the city’s prolonged wait for the monsoon may conclude today.
Although the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has repeatedly issued yellow alerts and expected the onset of the monsoon in recent days, Delhi residents have been awaiting its arrival as forecasts remain unfulfilled.
Conversely, the monsoon is strengthening in Kerala, prompting the Met Department to issue a red alert for three districts, PTI reported. Multiple rivers are running above the danger mark.
An orange alert has been issued for Southeast and Southwest Delhi, whereas a yellow alert continues for other areas of the city.

Why the delay in Monsoon?
The main cause of the delay is the anti-cyclonic circulation, a high-pressure system, present in the middle and upper levels of the atmosphere over Delhi and surrounding areas.
As per the IMD officials, this system is functioning as a barrier, preventing the northward flow of the monsoon winds. This area of high pressure has altered the usual wind and circulation patterns, maintaining the monsoon trough significantly south of Delhi, according to Hindustan Times.

The meteorological department had originally forecasted that the monsoon would arrive in Delhi on June 24, but it did not occur. It was anticipated to come on Wednesday, but once more, the prediction did not come true. The IMD updated its forecast, indicating that the monsoon is expected to arrive in the capital on Thursday, but it missed once more.
Will the Monsoon finally arrive?
The meteorological agency has predicted moderate to heavy rain, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds (40–60 km/h), in areas of Delhi and nearby regions within the next two hours.
Regions expected to be impacted in Delhi include Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, and Deramandi.
In the NCR, areas such as Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, and Ballabhgarh are anticipated to experience comparable situations.

As per the IMD prediction, Delhi could experience light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and winds reaching 50 kmph from June 30 to July 31. Rainy weather is predicted to persist into early July, with the monsoon probably affecting all of India by July 8.
Despite IMD’s revised alerts, the monsoon has eluded Delhi, though this time there are quite high chances of rains in the capital city and people may get much needed relief from the heat.
