Former India spinner Dilip Doshi passed away at the age of 77 on Monday, June 23. A close family associate of the former left-arm spinner remarked that Doshi passed away in London on Monday.
Doshi played for India in 33 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals. The ex-left-arm spinner is survived by a daughter and a son.
Doshi entered international cricket late in his career, representing India from 1979 to 1983, and he made his debut at 32 years old. In 33 Tests, Doshi took 114 wickets and achieved six five-wicket hauls.
Doshi took 22 wickets in the 15 ODIs he participated in. Starting his career in the domestic circuit during the 1968-69 season, Doshi competed in 238 first-class matches before retiring in 1986 and claimed 898 wickets. During this period, he represented Bengal and Saurashtra.

Cheteshwar Pujara honored Doshi following the conclusion of Monday’s play in the Leeds Test. Pujara mentioned that Doshi was a wonderful individual and shared details about the conversations he had with the ex-spinner during his time playing county cricket for Sussex.
Tendulkar pays homage to Doshi
Indian cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri, along with other experienced players, were profoundly affected by the news.
On social media, Sachin reminisced about his initial encounter with Doshi in 1990, noting that he bowled to him in the nets while getting ready for the tour.
“I met Dilipbhai for the first time in the UK in 1990, and he bowled to me in the nets on that tour. He was really fond of me, and I reciprocated his feelings. A warm-hearted soul like Dilipbhai will be deeply missed. I will miss those cricketing conversations which we invariably had. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti,” Sachin wrote.
Ex-BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah expressed that the news represented a deeply painful and personal loss for him.
“It is a deeply painful and personal loss for me. Dilip was not only one of the iconic cricketers, but also one of the best individuals I have ever encountered. His honorable spirit, steadfastness, and invaluable commitment to the sport distinguished him uniquely,” stated Shah.
