Bengaluru:

The suspension of Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda following the tragic stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has triggered widespread outrage, political debate, and questions about accountability. Here are five important developments that could shape what happens next:

1. Strong Public Support for Dayananda

Many Bengaluru residents, police officials, and netizens have expressed shock over Dayananda’s suspension. They believe he is being made a scapegoat for a tragedy that was caused by poor planning and political pressure. Social media is flooded with calls for his reinstatement, calling him one of the most effective officers the city has had in recent years.

2. Allegations of Political Pressure

Reports have emerged that the Chief Minister’s Office instructed the police to go ahead with the RCB IPL celebration, despite warnings about crowd control issues. An officer revealed that the event was promoted heavily on social media by ministers, forcing the police to comply under pressure a factor now being closely investigated.

3. Opposition Demands Resignations

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and other BJP leaders have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. Joshi accused Shivakumar of “dadagiri” and criticized the state for celebrating with the IPL trophy even after multiple deaths were reported.

4. Swift Government Action

The Karnataka government suspended Dayananda and two other senior police officials. It also ordered the arrest of executives from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment for negligence. This aggressive action came only after the High Court stepped in.

5. Uncertain but Hopeful Future

With massive public support and growing scrutiny over political involvement, B Dayananda’s suspension may not be the final chapter. If investigations prove that he was acting under pressure, he could be reinstated. His case has become a symbol of the difficult line police officers walk between duty and political interference.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
