With lives lost and many injured, Delhi’s administration is under pressure from LG VK Saxena to deliver answers. The District Magistrate of Northeast Delhi will lead the probe, with a report due in 15 days.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered a comprehensive magisterial enquiry into the tragic collapse of a four-storey residential building in Dayalpur, which claimed multiple lives and left several others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of April 19 at D-26, Gali 1, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The District Magistrate of North East Delhi has been tasked with conducting the enquiry and has been directed to submit a detailed report within 15 days. The probe will examine the circumstances leading to the collapse, scrutinize all relevant facts, and determine if there were any lapses, omissions, or acts of negligence that contributed to the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that unauthorized construction could have been a factor in the structural failure. In response, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been instructed to initiate action against field-level officials for any oversight or negligence in monitoring building norms.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) working relentlessly at the site to clear debris and locate any individuals who may still be trapped.
The magisterial enquiry will also seek to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the construction and supervision of the building. The LG emphasized that no negligence would be overlooked and strict action would be taken against those found culpable.
The administration has assured the families of victims that justice will be served and efforts are being made to prevent such tragedies in the future.
