BJP’s Sambit Patra accuses Congress leader of defaming India abroad and glorifying corruption, calling his remarks shameful and anti-democratic.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks made in the United States, accusing him of “disrespecting Indian democracy” and “maligning national institutions abroad.”
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra lashed out at Gandhi for claiming that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was “compromised.” Gandhi made the allegation while speaking to the Indian diaspora in Boston, referencing a dramatic spike of 65 lakh votes during the Maharashtra assembly elections that he deemed “physically impossible.”
“This isn’t the first time Rahul Gandhi has chosen foreign soil to attack India’s institutions. It has become a disturbing pattern,” Patra said. “Ironically, while the U.S. Vice President was in India, Rahul Gandhi was in the U.S., delivering a lecture at Brown University and insulting Indian democracy. This behavior is shameful and unbecoming of someone who claims to represent the people of India.”

Patra went further, calling Gandhi a “habitual offender” in such matters and a “traitor” for consistently criticizing the country abroad. He drew parallels with past conduct by the Congress party, referencing incidents during the Commonwealth era as part of what he termed a “legacy of disrespect.”

Even now, Congress is trying to spin this as a triumph. Let me be clear—they will not be spared,” he added.
In his remarks in Boston, Rahul Gandhi reiterated that the voting numbers in Maharashtra raised serious doubts. “The Election Commission gave us a figure at 5:30 pm, and by 7:30 pm, 65 lakh more votes had been added. This is physically impossible without massive queues, which did not happen. It’s very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised,” Gandhi claimed.
