US aircraft manufacturer Boeing laid off nearly 180 employees at its engineering technology center in Bengaluru as part of a worldwide workforce reduction initiative, as per a source.

Boeing, encountering various global challenges, employs approximately 7,000 people in India, a vital market for the firm.

Last year, Boeing revealed a worldwide cut in its workforce by approximately 10 percent.

The source familiar with the situation noted that as part of the worldwide workforce cutbacks, nearly 180 employees were dismissed from the Boeing India Engineering Technology Center in Bengaluru during the December quarter of 2024.

Boeing did not issue any official statement.

The source indicated that strategic modifications were implemented, impacting a few roles, while guaranteeing no negative effects on clients or government activities.

Although certain positions have been eliminated, the source noted that new roles have been established as well, emphasizing that cutbacks in India have been more deliberate, with a strong emphasis on preserving customer service, safety, and quality standards.

The Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) located in Bengaluru and Chennai handles intricate advanced aerospace projects.

The company’s wholly-owned engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru is one of its largest investments outside the US. Also, Boeing’s sourcing from India is at around USD 1.25 billion annually from a network of more than 300 suppliers, as per its website.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
