Karnataka Assembly Speaker UT Khader suspended 18 BJP MLAs for six months starting immediately due to indiscipline on Friday.

The measure was implemented due to the members’ supposed interference with Assembly activities earlier that day, as they ignored the Speaker’s commands and acted in a disorderly and disrespectful fashion.

The suspended MLAs were observed ascending the Speaker’s podium, throwing papers at the Speaker, and demonstrating in the Well of the House. The marshals removed the MLAs from the assembly.

The suspended MLAs consist of Opposition Chief Whip Doddanagouda H Patil, Ashwath Narayan CN, SR Vishwanath, BA Basavaraj, Shri MR Patil, Channabasappa (Channi), B Suresh Gowda, Umanath A Kotyan, Sharanu Salagar, Shailendra Beldale, CK Ramamurthy, Yashpal A Suvarna, BP Harish, Bharath Shetty Y, Munirathna, Basavaraj Mattimood, Dheeraj Muniraju, and Chandru Lamani.

According to the suspension order, these members will be prohibited from accessing the Assembly hall, lobby, and galleries. They will likewise be barred from attending meetings of any standing committees and from having any subject or issue included in the Assembly agenda associated with their names.

Any instructions provided by them during the suspension period will be disregarded, and they will be prohibited from voting in committee elections. They also will not be given any daily allowances throughout this time.

During the day, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly was filled with chaos because of two significant matters: the honey-trap scandal and the supposed endorsement of a controversial bill that offers a four percent reservation for Muslims in government contracts.

The honey-trapping scandal started when Cooperative Minister KN Rajanna claimed that as many as 48 politicians, including key individuals, fell prey to a sophisticated honey-trap operation.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
