Amid ongoing protests regarding the alleged mistreatment of Nepali students at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, a Deemed-to-be-University, the Odisha government promised Nepal that justice would be delivered concerning a student’s suicide that occurred on campus.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi conversed with Nepali counselors Sanjeeb Das Sharma and Navin Raj Adhikari, promising them that justice will prevail in the matter concerning the deceased KIIT student, Prakriti.
In a message on social media platform X, the Odisha CM also guaranteed that peace and normalcy would be reinstated on the KIIT campus.
He encouraged Nepali students to go back to campus and continue their education.
As per the Chief Minister’s Office, two Ministers, Mukesh Mahaling and Suryabanshi Suraj, together with Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, engaged in talks with representatives from Nepal to facilitate the restoration of normalcy at KIIT. Additionally, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba also had a phone conversation with Mr. Suraj about the issue.
It should be noted that Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli responded to the mistreatment of Nepali students at KIIT. Mr. Oli stated in a message, “Our embassy in New Delhi has sent two officials to assist Nepali students impacted in Odisha. Furthermore, plans have been established to guarantee they can choose to stay in their hostel or go back home, depending on their preference.”
A Nepali student at KIIT University was discovered dead in her hostel room on February 16. It was reported that she had a difficult relationship with a male friend. The event ignited a protest among students on campus.
