Prominent Indian opener Shubman Gill, currently in remarkable form, on Wednesday (February 19) surpassed star Pakistani batsman and former captain Babar Azam to claim latest No. 1 ranking in ODI cricket.
The 25-year-old cricketer hailing from Punjab boasts 796 rating points, 23 points ahead of Babar, who has 773. This marks the second occasion in ODI history that Gill has ascended to the No. 1 spot in the ODI rankings.
Gill was in tremendous form in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. He made 87 runs off 96 balls in the first match held at VCA Stadium in Nagpur on February 6, and in the second game at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium, he hit 60 runs from 52 balls.
In the last game of the series, held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 19, Gill batted first for the home team and played a crucial knock of 112 runs.

Along with Gill, Shreyas Iyer has also moved up in the ICC ODI batter rankings.
Iyer, who tallied 59, 44, and 78 runs in three ODIs against England team captained by Jos Buttler, has moved up one rank to become the new world No. 9 ODI batsman. He possesses 679 rating points.
