On Tuesday, five employees, consisting of three directors and two security personnel, were detained related to the student demonstration concerning the purported suicide of a Nepali student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar.

The event sparked extensive demonstrations involving over 500 Nepali students throughout the campus. The situation intensified when university officials attempted to forcibly remove certain students from the campus, resulting in diplomatic intervention.

The apprehension occurred after a police report issued today, which outlined an event involving the purported use of force by security personnel and university authorities to expel protesting students from the campus.

According to the police, witnesses reported that the guards verbally mistreated and physically attacked the students, leading to injuries.

The arrested individuals have been recognized as two security personnel, Ramakanta Nayak and Jogendra Behera, in addition to three university administrators.

They are currently facing accusations under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Meanwhile, the university’s Vice-Chancellor has publicly apologized.

“KIIT has consistently been a refuge for students from around the globe, nurturing a culture of inclusiveness, respect, and compassion.” “We sincerely apologize for the recent incident and reiterate our dedication to the safety, dignity, and welfare of all our students, especially our valued Nepali students,” states the letter of apology.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
