Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu was eliminated from the ongoing India Open 2025 after suffering a defeat against Paris Olympics bronze medallist Gregoria Tunjung with scoreline of 9-21, 21-19, and 17-21 in the women’s singles quarterfinals on Friday.

Sindhu had previously overcome Japan’s Manami Suizu with scores of 21-15 and 21-13 to secure her place in the quarterfinals of the super 750 event in Delhi.

Sindhu battled fiercely to push the match to the decider after dropping the opening set 9-21, but Tunjung succeeded in clinching the tie. After falling behind in the second game 3-9, Sindhu rallied to equalize at 9 points and then pushed for a deciding game against the mistake-prone Indonesian player.

Tunjung gained a 10-8 advantage in the third set following several intense exchanges between the two players. Sindhu aimed to keep the pressure on the Indonesian player and levelled it at 10-10 following the break.

Tunjung then surged to a 17-14 advantage, but Sindhu managed to equalize. Nonetheless, Tunjung quickly secured the three match points and defeated Sindhu with a cross-court winner.

This was Sindhu’s inaugural competitive event following her marriage to Venkata Datta Sai in mid-December of the previous year.

Sindhu felt let down after being defeated by World No.5 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the quarter-final match that lasted 62 minutes.

“It is sad definitely that I lost in the third set after fighting so hard but I think the game is such. I have to obviously come back stronger but at that point I would say anybody would have got that point or lost that point,” Sindhu told reporters.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
