In a letter addressed to newly appointed Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Imphal-based radical Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol extended a warm welcome while highlighting critical issues of border security, NRC, and territorial integrity. The group called for immediate action to fortify the state’s borders, citing the importance of protecting Manipur’s sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its residents.
The letter, titled “Khurumjari,” expressed optimism about the new Governor’s leadership, marking his appointment as a turning point for the state. Bhalla, a 1984-batch IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, assumed office amidst hopes of ushering in stability and development.

Stronger Border Fencing: A Priority
Arambai Tenggol emphasized the urgent need for strengthened border fencing along the India-Myanmar frontier. “Our state’s territorial integrity is paramount,” the letter stated, underlining the significance of curbing illegal activities and safeguarding residents. The group expressed confidence that Governor Bhalla would prioritize this issue and work diligently to reinforce the state’s defenses.

Illegal immigration, cross-border smuggling, and drug trafficking were cited as pressing concerns that require immediate intervention. The group reiterated its support for measures to enhance border security, which it considers a cornerstone for peace and prosperity in Manipur.
Vision for Manipur’s Security and Development
The letter also highlighted the necessity of implementing a robust National Register of Citizenship (NRC) to ensure that genuine residents are recognized and protected. “A transparent and fair system is essential to uphold the dignity of those who call our state home,” the letter stated.
Arambai Tenggol voiced its commitment to creating a drug-free state, calling for decisive action against drug trafficking and illegal poppy cultivation. The group lauded the Governor’s pledge to address this issue and emphasized the importance of rehabilitation programs to mitigate the impact of substance abuse on families and communities.

The group expressed optimism about Governor Bhalla’s potential to foster dialogue and understanding among diverse communities in Manipur.
