In a podcast with Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the essential traits a politician must possess to thrive, stressing the importance of communication, commitment, and remaining engaged with the public.
PM Modi stated that people with a purpose will thrive, whereas those motivated by personal goals will not succeed in politics.
In response to Kamath’s inquiry regarding the skills required for a political career, PM Modi stated, “Getting into politics is straightforward, but attaining success presents a completely different obstacle.”
“Achieving success in politics requires immense commitment, a continual relationship with the populace during their highs and lows, and the capacity to collaborate effectively as a team member.” If a person thinks that everyone will heed them or adopt their way of operating, they are wrong. “Even if they manage to win some elections, there’s no assurance they will become a successful leader,” he stated in his first podcast.

He subsequently likened the difficulties faced during India’s fight for independence to the political environment of India after gaining independence.
“Throughout India’s fight for independence, individuals from different backgrounds joined in, contributing in multiple ways. Some informed the public, others focused on producing Khadi, and numerous individuals contributed to tribal development, among various other roles.” However, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that they were all connected by a shared sense of patriotism.
The Prime Minister emphasized that it is “essential for capable individuals to enter politics with a purpose, rather than for personal gain”.
“Consider Mahatma Gandhi, for instance. He might not have been an exceptional speaker, yet his character and bond with the people united the nation. Gandhi himself never donned a cap, yet the world recalls the ‘Gandhi topi’. “That’s the strength of genuine communication and leadership,” he stated.
As stated by the Prime Minister, “skillful politicians” with well-crafted speeches may be pertinent for a brief period, yet they won’t endure for long.
When questioned about youth entering politics, he remarked, “India needs one lakh committed young politicians, motivated by a selfless passion to serve the country.”
