While these stars may have battled larger-than-life fires and foes on the silver screen, in reality, they were powerless as flames consumed their dreams—and much more.
More than 1,000 structures have been destroyed as six separate fires continue to ravage the city and its surroundings, including areas famously home to film stars’ mansions. Among the worst-hit was the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood, where flames spread rapidly, growing from a few hundred acres to over 15,000 in size in just a matter of days. This picturesque area, nestled between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, is now nothing but ash.
Actor James Woods, known for his roles in films like Nixon and Casino, was overcome with emotion during an interview on CNN. “One day you’re swimming in the pool, and the next day, it’s all gone,” Woods said, visibly tearful as he recounted the devastation. He shared a touching moment where his wife’s eight-year-old niece offered her piggybank to help them rebuild.
Veteran actor Billy Crystal, who lived in Pacific Palisades since 1979, also expressed his heartbreak. “We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away,” he said. Crystal vowed that, with the support of his family and friends, he would overcome the loss.

Paris Hilton, who lost her Malibu home, took to Instagram to share her devastation: “Watching the news and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground is something no one should ever have to experience.” She described how the home was filled with precious memories and expressed her thoughts and prayers for all families affected by the fires.
The fires also claimed the home of Brody, star of Nobody Wants This and Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester. Reality TV stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, also victims of the fire, shared their harrowing experience online. “I’m watching our house burn down on the security cameras,” Pratt posted. Montag added that while they managed to escape safely, they kept replaying the moments they wished they could have saved more of their belongings.
Mandy Moore, singer and This Is Us actress, shared a video of the destruction as she evacuated. “I’m in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family. My children’s school is gone. Our favourite restaurants, levelled,” Moore wrote. She expressed gratitude for her safety and her community’s resilience, despite the overwhelming loss.
TV host Ricki Lake, whose home was also destroyed, expressed deep sorrow, calling the event “apocalyptic” and mourning alongside others affected. Other high-profile stars like Sir Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Anna Faris, and Cary Elwes have also reportedly lost their homes in the fire’s path.
As the fires continue to rage, the city of Los Angeles is grappling with the aftermath of this catastrophic event, with many stars now standing alongside their fellow citizens in the long process of rebuilding their lives and their community.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
