The Election Commission of India (ECI) will reveal the schedule for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday at 2 pm, paving the way for an intense electoral battle among the ruling AAP, the BJP, and the Congress.

Elections in 70 constituencies are expected to take place in one phase during the second week of February.

The AAP, under the leadership of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, aims to hold onto power for a third straight term, whereas the BJP is aiming to take control in the national capital. The Congress is gearing up for a tough battle, aiming to surprise everyone with a victory.

The Assembly elections are regarded as a contest of honor for all factions. After Kejriwal stepped down as Chief Minister after securing bail in the liquor policy case in September last year, the AAP announced that he would regain power when the people of Delhi place their trust in him again. In the meantime, the BJP is using every effort to dislodge the AAP, claiming the party is corrupt at all levels.

The AAP won the 2015 and 2020 elections by securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively, while the BJP ended up with single-digit results in those elections. The Congress, in the meantime, ended up empty-handed after governing Delhi for 15 years.

Although the Congress and AAP joined forces for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as part of the INDIA bloc, they will run separately in the Assembly elections.

All three parties have revealed their preliminary list of candidates for the Assembly elections. Kejriwal is preparing to compete against ex-BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh and ex-Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit, the son of the late Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, in the New Delhi constituency.

The tenure of the 70-member Assembly concludes on February 23, necessitating elections to form a new House beforehand.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
