Amid heightened national interest in recent drone and UFO sightings, Luis Elizondo, former head of the Defense Department’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, and other witnesses testified before Congress last month. They alleged that elements within the government are concealing evidence of extraterrestrial life.
“I believe that we, as Americans, can handle the truth. And I also believe the world deserves the truth,” Elizondo stated, urging lawmakers to pass legislation that would protect whistleblowers afraid to come forward.

The hearing was part of a broader Congressional effort to investigate UFOs—also known as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs)—and to determine whether government agencies are withholding critical evidence from oversight authorities.
A military-trained observer shared a chilling account of a UFO encounter with Congress, recounting an incident from last October while camping in Mountain Center, California. He described how the natural sounds of the forest suddenly stopped, and the area was illuminated “brighter than the brightest full moon.”

According to a UFO reporting site, the witness observed a large, white, oval-shaped light hovering silently at treetop level. Measuring an estimated 20 to 30 feet in length, the object emitted no heat, noise, or other detectable characteristics, resembling a stationary helicopter.
In another recent incident, multiple pilots reported unusual aerial activity over Oregon. According to KPTV, they saw three to four red, circular lights darting through the night sky at varying altitudes. A United Airlines pilot even contacted air traffic control to report the moving lights over western Oregon.
Similar sightings have been reported across the country. In April 2022, a Connecticut woman witnessed a strange light over a reservoir. “I’m always a sky watcher,” she told NewsNation. “I thought it might be a plane, but the way it moved—it couldn’t have been.”
While not all recent sightings are classified as UFO encounters, they have garnered significant attention from authorities, including the FBI. Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed temporary flight restrictions over parts of New Jersey, effective until January 17, 2025, following a spike in drone activity. These restrictions exempt drone operations tied to national defense, law enforcement, and other emergency services.
On December 3, the FBI, New Jersey State Police, and the state’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness urged the public to report any information regarding drone sightings along the Raritan River.
Despite public concern, White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby told Fox News that the drones are “legal” and “lawful.” An analysis conducted by the FBI, FAA, and other agencies reviewed approximately 5,000 sightings, concluding that most were attributable to “legal, commercial hobbyist, and law enforcement aircraft activity.”
A joint statement from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, FAA, and Department of Defense affirmed that there is no evidence suggesting these drones are anomalous or pose a threat to national security or public safety. Nonetheless, the ongoing investigations have continued to fuel discussions about the possibility of unidentified objects in the skies.
