Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over attempts to disrupt social harmony and incite violence, referencing the recent tragedy at a Christmas market in Germany. Speaking at the Christmas celebrations hosted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, PM Modi emphasized the importance of a human-centric approach to drive global progress in the 21st century.

Reflecting on the teachings of Jesus Christ, he said, “The teachings of Lord Christ celebrate love, harmony, and brotherhood. It pains my heart when attempts are made to spread violence and disrupt society. Just a few days ago, we witnessed the tragic incident at the Christmas market in Germany. It is essential that we come together to fight such challenges.”

The prime minister was referring to a recent incident in Germany where a Saudi physician drove into a crowded Christmas market, resulting in five fatalities, including a nine-year-old child, and injuring more than 200 people, including seven Indians.

During his address, PM Modi recalled a moment of personal satisfaction from a decade ago when India successfully rescued Father Alexis Prem Kumar, who was held hostage in war-torn Afghanistan for eight months. “For us, these missions are not just diplomatic operations but emotional commitments to bring back family members,” he said.
