Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kuwait for a two-day trip and plans to engage in discussions with the nation’s senior leadership, connect with the Indian community, and tour an Indian labor camp.
PM Modi’s visit to the Gulf nation marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has traveled there in 43 years. He was greeted warmly by numerous officials from Kuwait’s highest leadership.
During the visit, it is anticipated that agreements will be signed in several important areas, such as defence and trade. PM Modi is traveling to Kuwait at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
This evening, PM Modi will engage with the 5,000-member Indian community at the ‘Hala Modi’ event and participate in the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup, a football competition.
In his statement upon leaving, PM Modi expressed his anticipation for the meetings with the Emir and emphasized that it would serve as a chance to outline a roadmap for a progressive partnership benefiting the citizens of both nations.
“We greatly appreciate the historical bond with Kuwait that has been cultivated through the years.” “We are not only robust partners in trade and energy, but also share a commitment to peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the West Asia area,” he stated.
“I eagerly look forward to meeting the Indian diaspora in Kuwait who have immensely contributed to strengthening of bonds of friendship between the two nations,” the Prime Minister said, adding that he was confident that the visit will further strengthen and reinforce the special ties of India and Kuwait.
During a media briefing on Friday, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Overseas Indian Affairs) at the MEA, stated that PM Modi’s “historic visit” to Kuwait was anticipated to “begin a new chapter” in the relationship between the two countries.
The Prime Minister is set to meet with the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, along with the Crown Prince and his equivalent. He is traveling to Kuwait at the request of the Emir. Chatterjee stated, “The visit would foster a more vibrant partnership between the two nations.”
The Prime Minister will discuss with the Kuwaiti leadership the full range of bilateral relations, including trade, investment, energy, culture, and people-to-people interactions.
As per Chatterjee, the Crown Prince of Kuwait will also hold a banquet in honor of PM Modi.
Chatterjee stated that the trip was anticipated to enhance the relationship between India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The GCC is a significant alliance that includes the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.
