New Delhi continues to reel under severe poor air quality. Even though a drizzle was predicted but that will not suffice to make the air quality to a better one. For some time in the recent past the national capital is going through a inferior air quality. With the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing over 390 mark which is “VERY BAD” as per the weather office.
On Monday, Â an hourly air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 402 at 7am compared to a 24-hour average of 396 (very bad) at 4pm on Sunday.
However,it has been predicted that the weather will improve from November 27 to 29 as some drizzle is likely to pour in but it won’t be sufficient enough to make the air quality a better one. This, according to the weather office. “Next six days will witness a severe air quality,” said an official of the weather office who preferred to live anonymous.
Till Sunday, Delhi’s monthly average AQI of 377 was the highest in the month of November which was highest in the previous eight years. In November 2021, it was 376, and in November 2016, it recorded 374.
Delhi has seen nine severe air days this month in comparison there were ten in November 2016 and eleven in November 2021. This month there were seven days where the AQI was on the verge of severe, or between 390 and 400, have been recorded.
There were 13 days in November 2021 where air quality remained severe or between 390 to 400. This was the highest recorded days in the month of November in the last eight years. In November 2016, 11 days had an AQI of 390 or higher in Delhi.
This poor air quality has cast it’s influence on the atmospheric temperature as well. With the temperature recorded 4 degrees above normal.
