Bypolls in Kerala, Punjab and UP, affecting 14 Assembly constituencies, rescheduled for November 20
The by-elections in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, affecting 14 Assembly constituencies, have been rescheduled by the Election Commission to November 20 from November 13.
The Election Commission announced that various political parties, such as BJP, Congress, BSP, and RLD, asked for a modification in the polling date for specific Assembly constituencies set for November 13, 2024.
These parties voiced concerns about important social, cultural, and religious events happening on that day, which might cause inconvenience for numerous people. They pointed out potential difficulties in logistics and the possibility of decreased voter involvement as explanations for the request.
As per Congress, a large number of voters in the 56-Palakkad Assembly Constituency in Kerala will attend the “Kalpathi Rastholsavam” festival from November 13 to 15, 2024.
The BJP, BSP, and RLD in Uttar Pradesh pointed out that individuals frequently journey three to four days early to observe Kartik Purnima.

The 14 constituencies affected are Palakkad in Kerala, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), Gidderbaha, and Barnala in Punjab, and Khair (SC), Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Karhal, Sishamau, Phulpur, Katehari and Majhawan in Uttar Pradesh.
The constituency’s counting dates will stay the same.
