United States imposes sanctions on 19 Indian companies for allegedly “supporting Russia’s ongoing war”

The United States imposed extensive sanctions on approximately 400 entities and individuals worldwide, including 19 from India, for their purported involvement in backing Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

The US Department of the Treasury announced that companies from China, Switzerland, Thailand, and Turkey have been sanctioned for supplying Russia with crucial technology and equipment for its military operations.

The Department also targeted various senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Defence chosen earlier this year, along with defense companies and those aiding Russia’s upcoming energy production and exports.

“The United States and our allies will continue to take decisive action across the globe to stop the flow of critical tools and technologies that Russia needs to wage its illegal and immoral war against Ukraine,” Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo said.

The sanctions are inteded to disrupt Russia’s capability to acquire important technologies and parts from third-party countries. Microelectronics and CNC products, categorized as high-priority by the Department of Commerce, are among the targeted goods.

The development occurrs during a period of tension between India and the US following an assassination attempt on Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Washington has accused ex-Indian intelligence officer Vikash Yadav of orchestrating the failed attack.

MEA responds to US sanctions on Indian firms

The Ministry of External Affairs is communicating with US officials to address concerns issues after extensive sanctions. On Saturday, the MEA maintained that these entities were in violation of any Indian laws.

“Our understanding is that the sanction, transactions and companies are not in violation of Indian laws. Nevertheless, in keeping with India’s established non-proliferation credentials, we are working with all the relevant Indian departments and agencies to sensitize Indian companies on applicable export control provisions and also inform them of new measures being implemented that could impact Indian companies in certain circumstances,” he added.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
