The police reported that more than 150 individuals sustained injuries, with eight in serious condition, due to a fireworks mishap at a temple festival in Kerala’s Kasaragod on Monday.
The incident occurred at Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple during Kaliyattam festival
The incident took place at around 12.30 am at the Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple during the yearly Kaliyattam festival.
The wounded were transferred to multiple hospitals in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Mangaluru, where they are currently undergoing medical care. Authorities believe the accident happened when a fireworks storage factory close to the temple ignited.
Shortly after the information about the accident was released, a number of senior officials from the district administration, such as the collector and the district police chief, reached the scene.

Investigation underway to find possible reasons for the accident
Authorities are conducting an investigation to find out what led to the fire, as local communities gathered to support the injured and their families.
Earlier this week, an FIR was filed by the Kerala Police regarding the alleged disturbance of the famous Thrissur Pooram festival in April. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan accused the Opposition of spreading exaggerated campaigns against the event.
The FIR, filed without naming the accused, lists charges that include criminal conspiracy, outraging religious sentiments, and incitement to riot.
