The minimum wage rates have been increased by the central government through a revision of the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA). This update aims to assist employees, especially those in the informal sector, in effectively handling the increasing expenses of daily life.

This will take effect starting on October 1, 2024.

The updated salaries will be advantageous for employees in different fields such as building construction, loading and unloading, security, cleaning, maintenance, mining, and farming. These industries fall under central area establishments.

Minimum wage rates organised according to skill levels, geographical regions

Minimum wage rates are organized based on skill levels like unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled, and are also varied by geographical regions identified as areas A, B, and C.

Semi-skilled workers will be paid Rs 868 daily, totaling Rs 22,568 monthly, whereas skilled and clerical workers will receive Rs 954 per day, equating to Rs 24,804 monthly. Workers with expertise, as well as armed security personnel, will be paid Rs 1,035 daily, amounting to Rs 26,910 monthly.

The government updates VDA twice a year

This latest update is the second wage adjustment for 2024, with the first one in April. The government updates the VDA twice a year, in April and October, depending on changes in the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
