Voting is taking place in the initial stage of the historic three-phase election in Jammu and Kashmir with strict security measures in place. Today, for the first time in a decade, twenty-four Assembly constituencies in seven districts on both sides of the Pir Panjal mountain range are casting their votes.

26.72 percent voter turnout recorded till 11 am

The voter turnout was recorded at 26.72 per cent by 11 am.

This marks the first Assembly poll in Jammu and Kashmir post the Centre’s revocation of Article 370 in 2019, removing the region’s unique status and converting it into Union Territories.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, has cautioned voters about Independent candidates attempting to “split votes and separate people”.

“People need to remember that the majority of these candidates are in Kashmir. It appears to be an effort to splinter voting and create division among people. I urge voters to be careful and avoid splitting their votes in the upcoming election,” news agency quoted Abdullah as saying.

He also wished for people to support the alliance between his National Conference (NC) party and Congress through their votes.

PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi urged people to vote in large numbers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged new voters to participate in the democratic process to enhance the celebration of democracy.

“As the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections begins, I urge all those in constituencies going to the polls today to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy. I particularly call upon young and first-time voters to exercise their franchise,” he tweeted.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi called on voters to select the opposition alliance in INDIA, stating that it would revive rights, create jobs, empower women, eliminate the era of injustice, and focus on rejuvenating Jammu and Kashmir.

“Come out of your homes in large numbers and exercise your democratic right – vote for INDIA,” he tweeted.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
