India’s men’s hockey team successfully defended their Bronze Medal from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Spain. The match, filled with tension and determination, saw India emerge victorious, ensuring their place on the podium once again.

Heartbreak in the Semi-Finals

India’s journey to the Bronze was not without its setbacks. Their hopes of reaching the finals were dashed when Germany defeated them in the semi-finals. Despite a strong performance throughout the tournament, India fell short against the formidable German side, missing out on a chance to compete for the gold. The loss was a tough pill to swallow, but the team regrouped with resolve to focus on the Bronze Medal match.

A Resilient Performance Against Spain

Captain Harmanpreet Singh, with two goals against Spain, finishes the tournament as India’s leading goal-scorer with a total of ten goals. The first quarter was a physical game with few circle penetrations from either side. Spain played defensively, while India failed to capitalize on their circle entries. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Spain took a 1-0 lead in the second quarter when Marc Miralles calmly converted a penalty stroke, beating PR Sreejesh. In the same quarter, India earned their first penalty corner, but Amit Rohidas’s drag flick was blocked by Spain.

Parity was restored in the dying moments of the second quarter when Indian skipper Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner, leveling the scores at 1-1 by half-time.

The third quarter began with Spain attacking the Indian defense from left to right. In response, a second goal from Harmanpreet, also from a penalty corner, put India ahead 2-1.

The fourth and final quarter was nothing short of a thriller. Spain earned two penalty corners in the dying moments of the match, but PR Sreejesh, playing his final career match, made crucial saves to ensure India secured the victory.

In the Bronze Medal match, India displayed resilience and determination. The game against Spain was closely contested, with both teams vying for the coveted spot on the podium. India managed to edge out Spain with a 2-1 victory, thanks to strategic play and solid defense. The win not only secured the Bronze Medal but also reaffirmed India’s standing as a top contender in international hockey.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
