In honor of the 106th birth anniversary of South Africa’s Father of the Nation, Nelson Mandela, the Gandhi Mandela Foundation organized the “Mandela Day” on Thursday at the United Service Institution of India, New Delhi. The Gandhi Mandela Foundation holds this event annually, celebrating Mandela’s enduring legacy. This year, the prestigious Gandhi Mandela Award was presented to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Rigoberta Menchú Tum from Mexico.
The event in New Delhi saw the participation of several distinguished personalities, including Shankar Aggarwal (Former Secretary , Minister of WCD , UD, Labour, Former IT Secretary ,MEITY Govt. of India) (Director, GMF), Shyam Jaju (National President, GMF), Dr. Savita Singh (Vice President, GMF), Dayakar Ratakonda (Board Member, GMF), Major General PK Goswami (Deputy Director General, USI), and Kedir Awol Omar (HoRD, ICRC). These speakers highlighted Mandela’s life and discussed the relevance of his ideas in today’s world. The event was also attended by Major General RS Yadav (Director CS3, USI), Gursharan Singh (Former Secretary, Indian Paralympic Committee, Member, Asian Paralympic Committee), and many ambassadors and representatives from various countries.

Rigoberta Menchú Tum Honored with Gandhi Mandela Award
On the occasion of Mandela Day, the Gandhi Mandela Foundation honored human rights activist and feminist Rigoberta Menchú Tum with the prestigious Gandhi Mandela Award in Mexico City, Mexico. This award reflects her unwavering dedication to peace, non-violence, and social and human welfare. Rigoberta Menchú Tum was previously awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.
