The first Esports World Cup is under way, with the goal of awarding £49 million over the course of eight weeks and 22 events to the world’s finest club.
With fireworks, dancers, LED drones, and the reveal of the new trophy that more than 500 teams would be competing for, the first-ever Esports World Cup got underway in dramatic fashion.
Esports World Cup; Grand Tournament in Riyadh
Enthusiasts can delve into 22 events across 21 distinct games, such as League of Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, Counter-Strike 2, EA Sports FC 24, and Fortnite. The prize pool, which has $62.5 million (£49 million) up for grabs during the tournament, is much larger than the stunning opening ceremony.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund provides funding for the competition, which is organized by the Esports World Cup Foundation and scheduled to take place annually in Riyadh, the nation’s capital.
Club Championship and Comprehensive Game Lineup at the Esports World Cup
In addition to offering teams exclusive prize pools for their own esports competitions, the Esports World Cup unveiled a brand-new cross-game format called Club Championship, “which will decide who the best club in the world is.”
Based on how well each club performed in their individual tournaments, the Club Championship will determine the overall winner and award $20 million (£15.75 million) to the top 16 clubs with the greatest total points.

For instance, FaZe Clan will receive points from every team it plays against in the World Cup, and if it finishes with the most points overall, it will win. The Esports World Cup kicked off with a ceremony on Tuesday, July 2, but the competition begins on Wednesday, July 3. Beginning on July 3 and ending on August 25, the event lasts for eight weeks.
The event will begin on July 3 with Call of Duty: Warzone and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. On July 4, Dota 2 and League of Legends will take the stage.
