Stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Teminus due to Dilwali rush; 9 injured, some of them stable
Nine individuals sustained injuries in a stampede at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai while attempting to board the train bound for Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Seven of them are in stable condition, while two others have sustained critical injuries. The BMC stated that the stampede happened because of the crowded conditions prior to Diwali.
Incident occurred when Train 22921 traveling from Bandra to Gorakhpur arrived at platform 1
Train 22921 traveling from Bandra to Gorakhpur arrived at platform 1 of the station, attracting a crowd of passengers waiting to board the train.
Insiders informed NDTV that the Gorakhpur train, originally scheduled weekly, was rescheduled to leave at 5:10 am. However, the train was delayed in arriving at the platform after being rescheduled. At approximately 3 am, a large crowd gathered at the platform and passengers attempted to enter the train’s general compartment, resulting in a stampede.
The Gorakhpur Express is an unreserved train and over 1,000 passengers had arrived to board the 22-bogey train. Some passengers tried to board the coaches while the train was still in motion because of which two passengers were injured.

The injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19) and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18).
Images from the scene depicted blood on the floor of the platform, as Railway Police and fellow passengers were observed assisting the injured individuals onto stretchers.
A video showed a Railway officer lifting an injured passenger on his shoulder. A different video displayed two males reclining on the ground of the platform, their clothing marked with blood. Close by, a gentleman was seated on a bench with his shirt ripped.
