In a village in Bihar’s Purnia, five members of a family were brutally beaten and set on fire by locals due to alleged witchcraft. The local residents linked the recent fatalities in the village with the family, believing they were to blame.
The villagers’ suspicion that the family was engaging in occult rituals escalated to the point that they violently killed five family members—Babulal Oraon, Sita Devi, Manjeet Oraon, Rania Devi, and Tapto Mosmat—on Sunday, holding them responsible for recent illnesses and deaths in the village.

After the incident, a cloud of fear has settled over the area, causing numerous villagers to leave their residences. Officers are monitoring the area, and a canine unit with a Forensic Science Laboratory team is carrying out inquiries.
