What began as murmurs about a Karnataka minister being honey-trapped escalated into a major controversy, with claims that around 48 political leaders, including key figures, have succumbed to this form of political trapping.

Karnataka Cooperative Minister KN Rajanna acknowledged in the Assembly that no less than 48 politicians, including central leaders, had fallen victim to honey traps, sparking vigorous debates in the assembly. He claimed that the problem was not restricted to a single party and called for an extensive investigation into the issue.

He stated, “From what I know, approximately 48 individuals have been affected by these CDs and pen drives, not merely one or two. And when I refer to ‘one’, I’m not only talking about those with me,” he remarked, pointing to his party members, “they (indicating the Opposition) are involved as well.”

“Respected Speaker, Karnataka has been referred to as a factory of CDs and pen drives – not by myself, but by numerous individuals. This is a grave allegation. Reports indicate that two influential ministers from Tumakuru have fallen victim to a honey trap. Currently, I am one of the ministers representing Tumakuru, and the other is Dr. Parameshwara – only the two of us. Numerous tales are unfolding. If I answer it here, it wouldn’t be suitable,” Rajanna stated during the assembly.

He additionally stated that he would submit a formal complaint to the Home Minister and requested a thorough investigation. “Who are the producers responsible for this? Who are the directors involved? Let everything be revealed. The public needs to be informed,” he stated.

Minister Sathish Jarkiholi of the Public Works Department had previously confirmed that there were two attempts of a honey trap on a Karnataka minister, but both attempts failed. He mentioned that honey trapping is not a novel concept in the state and that certain individuals are utilizing it as a political investment.

Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka called for the case to be examined by a current judge and urged the government to address the issue with seriousness. “Have a sitting judge investigate a honey trap case.” We must regard it with seriousness. “Allow the Home Minister to declare the type of inquiry he will carry out,” he stated.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
