The Israeli Defense Forces stated that the terrorists present at the school were linked to the October 7, 2023, massacre and were identified as members of the Nukhba Forces. The IDF reported that Hamas militants were operating from within the school. To minimise the risk to uninvolved women and children, the IDF clarified that they conducted aerial surveillance and utilized additional intelligence information to guide their actions.
Where the strike took place?
The strike in Nuseirat, one of Gaza’s densely populated refugee camps established in 1948, resulted in the deaths of several terrorists. Tragically, 23 civilians were also killed, including 14 children and 9 women. The missiles targeted classrooms on the second and third floors, where Palestinian families had sought shelter.

Footage circulated online depicted bodies, wrapped in blankets or plastic bags, lined up in the hospital courtyard. Mohammed al-Kareem, a displaced Palestinian staying near the hospital, reported witnessing civilians searching for their loved ones among the dead bodies. He described civilians wanted to identify the bodies of their families.
Hagari stated that the strike was carried out after intelligence and surveillance confirmed there were no women or children in the Hamas compound, specifically in those classrooms. He mentioned there were about 30 suspected militants in the three rooms and claimed that nine of them were confirmed killed. Hagari showed a slide with their names and photos but did not provide further evidence to support the military’s claims.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel’s offensive has resulted in the deaths of at least 36,000 Palestinians. Reports indicate that Israel launched its campaign in Gaza following Hamas’ attack on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the capture of approximately 250 hostages.
