The crew ventured into the sea in a mechanized boat from Karaikal fishing harbour on Sunday morning. They were fishing a few nautical miles southeast of Kodiyakarai on January 27.

Around 9.30pm, the Sri Lankan Navy confronted them as the fishers allegedly crossed IMBL and were in fishing in Sri Lanka waters.

Sri Lankan Navy fired at the fishermen:

During the confrontation, the navy allegedly fired at the boat when the fishers attempted to flee.

“Indian fishermen attempted to assault the naval personnel and snatch the fire arm from an officer during the action. In an accidental firing, two Indian fishermen were injured,” Sri Lankan Navy says in a press statement on arrest of 13 Indian fishers

The navy eventually apprehended the fishers and seized the boat, the fishing gear and the fish catch.

The fishers were directed to Kangesanthurai Harbour in Sri Lanka and handed over to the local authorities. The two injured fishers are currently under treatment in Teaching Hospital in Jaffna.

The mechanized boat is registered in the name of K Ananthavelu from Kilinjalmedu in Karaikal district. The Kilinjalmedu fisherfolk requested the Union and Puducherry governments to aid in recovering the boat and repatriating the arrested fishers from Sri Lanka.

India summons Sri Lanka envoy over firing by its Navy on fishers:

India has raised a strong objection with the Sri Lankan envoy regarding the Sri Lankan Navy’s firing on Indian fisherman during regular patrols, which resulted in injuries.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
